This vintage Hungarian dough bowl is a beautiful example of traditional Central European craftsmanship. Hand-carved from solid elm wood, it was originally used in village kitchens for mixing and kneading bread dough, a daily ritual in rural Hungarian homes.

Elm was valued for its strength, durability and pale natural grain. Each bowl was carved from a single piece of wood, resulting in subtle irregularities, a softly worn surface and a light, warm tone that reflect decades of use. Historic worm holes, long inactive, are a natural feature of antique wooden bowls and add to the authenticity and story of the piece.
