VINTAGE NEPALESE WOODEN SPICE POTS
These vintage Nepalese wooden spice pots are authentic pieces of traditional Himalayan craftsmanship, once used in Nepalese households to store and serve aromatic ground spices. In rural kitchens across Nepal, spices such as turmeric, chilli, cumin and coriander were essential to daily cooking, and small carved wooden boxes like these were used to keep them dry, organised and easily accessible.
Each pot is hand-carved from solid wood and fitted with an attached lid that pivots on one corner using a large metal pin — a simple yet ingenious design that allowed quick access while keeping contents protected. The lids are beautifully carved, reflecting the decorative traditions of Nepalese folk art.
Over time, the vibrant pigments of the spices stored inside have naturally dyed the interior wood, creating rich colour variations that speak directly to their past use. The surfaces are worn and beautifully aged, with visible signs of history that add depth and authenticity. No two are the same — variations in size, shape and colour make each piece entirely individual.

Easy hand dusting with a damp cloth is advisable. Do not wash in the dishwasher or even in soapy water unless you wish to wash away all that beautiful natural finish. We have cleaned them but not too much as we don't want to take away the beautiful patina.
